My Story

Welcome to My Story, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about my journey. My name is Tammy Hartwell, and my life changed forever when I had a stroke at the age of 13. Doctors told my mother that I would spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair, and as a confused, troubled teenager, I didn’t know what to think. Despite the uncertainty, I decided to stay strong and fight for my future. Through years of hard work and dedication, along with the help of physical and occupational therapy, I was able to leave the wheelchair behind and return home. That experience taught me the power of resilience, but my journey didn’t stop there.

As I entered adulthood, I encountered a new set of challenges. The therapy that had been so crucial to my recovery was suddenly no longer available. The healthcare system dismissed me, saying no further help was necessary. However, I knew from experience that ongoing therapy was vital for my muscles to stay flexible and pain-free. Without it, I faced tightness, discomfort, and the risk of losing my mobility. I realized that many disabled adults like me were being left behind, with no access to the care they needed to lead comfortable, productive lives. That realization inspired me to take action.

Today, through the Disabled Adults Out Reach Center Corp, I am dedicated to filling that gap. We provide comprehensive services, including physical therapy to improve mobility and relieve pain through a variety of treatments such as exercise, massage, heat or cold therapies, and more. Our occupational therapy program helps individuals regain independence in their daily activities by offering specialized equipment like wheelchairs, splints, and communication aids. We also address mental health and provide support for those with physical and learning disabilities, ensuring that everyone has the tools they need to thrive. My mission is simple: to ensure that disabled adults receive the ongoing care they deserve to live comfortably and independently.

Thank you for reading my story, and for supporting the work we do. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
